Los Angeles Room & Board (LARNB) is a non-profit organization that provides housing along with free meals for homeless college students. In addition, they also provide workshops to help the students achieve academic success and build important life skills for the real world.

TIMELINE

7 months

LARNB needs a more unified branding system to communicate
with donors, schools, and students. This new brand feel and
look will need to translate well on print and digital designs to
provide the brand a cohesive appearance.

This moodboard tries to capture the reality that homeless college students face while they’re trying to complete their education. The color yellow gives a sense of hope; there will be lights at the end of the tunnel.

Ideations

This approach portrays the services that LARNB provides for students in need through the use of icons. The books symbolize the tutoring service to help individuals achieve their academic goals; the utensils indicate the food that they offer. Lastly, the house represents the housing service that LARBN provides for homeless students. The untraditional roof of the house symbol gives the logo a slight 3d effect, while the use of the sans-serif font displays a modern look.

MOODBOARD

Broken type explores the idea that with LA Room and Board, students can break through and defy the odds. The strong, serif type represents the program’s ability to gain stability while getting an education. People of all colors, hence the duotone color palette, will receive a sense of empowerment through the guidance of Los Angeles Room and Board.
